Schneider Electric builds green smart facility in Tamil Nadu industrial hub

India’s industrial growth is given a boost as Schneider Electric prepares to set up a 500,000 sq ft eco-conscious manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu, The facility, part of a two-phase plan, aims to increase efficiency, employment, and sustainability. Strategically located at Horizon Industrial Park near Shoolagiri, the project highlights Tamil Nadu’s emerging role as a high-tech manufacturing and logistics hub with global reach and clean energy goals.

Authorities confirmed that the first phase includes a modern, dust-free manufacturing unit with advanced fire safety, increased industrial power, and flexible workspaces. This initial setup will support around 1,500 jobs through direct and indirect employment. With its proximity to both Bengaluru and Chennai, the new unit is expected to strengthen Schneider Electric’s production network across southern India while reinforcing commitments to the ‘Make in India’ initiative and export-ready capabilities.

The second phase will feature a tailor-made high-performance facility incorporating cutting-edge operational technologies. Officials stated that the complete development cycle will be executed within seven months. The design will include smart infrastructure, pre-engineered buildings, and a layout optimised for energy efficiency and scalable operations. Officials believe this expansion will further Schneider Electric’s footprint in the Indian IT and automation manufacturing sector, while reducing logistics delays and enhancing market responsiveness.

The site is pre-certified ‘Platinum’ by the Indian Green Building Council, signalling adherence to sustainable development standards. Eco-friendly measures such as rooftop solar panels, skylights for natural lighting, glass wool insulation, and an energy-efficient ventilation system will be implemented. Experts said that this aligns with green energy goals and will support reduced emissions, lower energy costs, and cleaner work environments—enhancing the long-term sustainability of the entire manufacturing lifecycle.

As part of its Building Management System, the new unit will include EV charging points, HVAC controls, and smart lighting solutions. Experts explained that these features will lower operational energy consumption while maintaining indoor environmental quality. In the next development stage, solar capacity will be expanded further. The park, managed by one of India’s top industrial infrastructure developers, spans thousands of acres and supports several global and domestic manufacturing clients.

The upcoming Schneider Electric facility signals a new era of high-performance, low-carbon industrial growth in Tamil Nadu. As India deepens its manufacturing capabilities with digital innovation and sustainable design, such projects offer a blueprint for global companies looking to scale in eco-conscious ways. With smart systems, job creation, and faster logistics, the initiative strengthens India’s green industrial future while positioning Tamil Nadu as a world-class production hub.
