Nashik Gears Up for Maharashtra’s Third Multi-Modal Logistics Park as NHAI Initiates Bidding

In a strategic move to bolster Maharashtra’s logistics infrastructure, Nashik is set to host the state’s third Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) invites bids for the Rs 336.55 crore project in Niphad taluka. Executed by the National Highways Logistics Management Ltd.

(NHLML), a special purpose vehicle of NHAI, the project follows the recent awarding of contracts for MMLPs in Nagpur and Pune. The Nashik MMLP, developed under a design-build-finance-operate-and-transfer (DBFOT) framework, plays a pivotal role in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ plan to establish 35 multi-modal logistics parks across India under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan. With an emphasis on reducing logistics costs to 8-9 per cent of the GDP, these logistics parks aim to enhance India’s competitiveness on the global stage. Nashik’s strategic location was a key factor in its selection for the MMLP, aligning with the goal of optimising goods movements efficiency across the country. The MMLPs, catering to 50 per cent of the nation’s road freight movement, are crucial in achieving the broader objectives of the national logistics plan.

Notably, contracts for five MMLPs have been awarded so far, including those in Nagpur, Chennai, Bengaluru, Indore, and Jogighopa. The initiative aims to transform India’s logistics landscape and elevate its standing in global trade. As Nashik prepares to embark on this significant project, it marks another milestone in the nationwide effort to enhance logistics infrastructure and drive economic growth. The Nashik MMLP is expected to contribute to the reduction of logistics costs, currently accounting for 14 per cent of the GDP, thus enhancing India’s competitiveness in the global market. This transformative project is in line with the government’s vision for a robust and efficient logistics network, emphasising the role of strategic locations like Nashik in the nation’s economic progress.
