Eluru Faces Planned Power Outage for Maintenance on July 4

Parts of Eluru will experience a scheduled power outage on Friday, July 4, as the Eastern Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh Limited (APEPDCL) undertakes annual maintenance activities. Electricity will be suspended between 8 A.M. and 2 P.M. in areas serviced by the Kottadibba substation. The pre-monsoon exercise includes routine inspection, line servicing, and trimming of overgrown tree branches to ensure safe and uninterrupted power supply during the upcoming storm season.

According to APEPDCL, the planned maintenance is a critical seasonal exercise aimed at reducing risks of power interruptions during heavy rains. The temporary shutdown will affect several localities including Vennavallivaripeta, Nawabpeta, Satyanarayanapeta, Lambadipeta, Bhavishettivaripeta, Nalladibba, and parts of Canal Road. Technicians will conduct line checks and remove tree branches encroaching on high-tension wires, a common hazard during monsoons. Authorities emphasised that this preventive measure is essential to avoid emergency outages caused by fallen branches, water seepage, or transformer overloads during storms. Although the blackout may disrupt daily routines in affected areas, officials insist the timing has been planned to minimise inconvenience to schools, hospitals, and business centres. Emergency response units and backup generators in critical institutions have been alerted in advance. Residents are advised to switch off sensitive appliances and plan water storage ahead of the outage window to avoid difficulties during the six-hour cut.

Pre-monsoon electrical maintenance has become increasingly important across Andhra Pradesh due to the growing frequency of short circuits, voltage drops, and outages during seasonal storms. In Eluru, authorities note that last year’s disruptions during heavy rainfall were partly due to untrimmed tree canopies and ageing infrastructure. This year, the power company is proactively addressing these issues in a phased manner across substations. Officials say Kottadibba was prioritised due to its mixed residential-commercial character and relatively higher risk of transformer faults. Field teams have been deployed with trimming equipment, safety gear, and backup components to complete the work within the scheduled hours. While no load-shedding is expected outside the stated timeframe, utility officials have asked consumers to remain alert for any unforeseen delays. Public awareness efforts, including text alerts and loudspeaker announcements in impacted areas, are already underway. The exercise is part of a larger statewide effort to climate-proof energy infrastructure.

As Eluru braces for its scheduled power cut on July 4, residents are being urged to cooperate with the electricity board’s maintenance drive. The short-term inconvenience aims to prevent long-term disruption during peak monsoon activity. With several low-lying and tree-lined areas vulnerable to storm damage, timely grid maintenance and vegetation clearance are critical steps toward reliable service. Authorities have assured that the work will be completed by 2 P.M. barring any complications, and emergency services are on standby. Citizens are encouraged to report any electrical hazards and follow updates from local authorities to stay informed.
