The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy to very heavy rainfall alerts spanning northwest, central, eastern, and coastal regions, driven by active monsoonal systems. Areas such as East Rajasthan, Madhya Maharashtra, Goa, and Karnataka have already witnessed heavy downpours, while storms have battered Odisha, Assam, and Himachal Pradesh. The meteorological agency warns that this heightened weather pattern is expected to persist, with intensified episodes likely over the next several days.
In northwest India, a monsoon trough coupled with cyclonic circulations will continue to trigger intense rain in East Rajasthan, alongside scattered showers across Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and East–West Uttar Pradesh between 4 and 9 July. Peak activity is forecasted for 6–7 July in Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh, including thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 30–40 km/h. The western coast, especially the Ghat regions of Maharashtra and the Konkan-Goa belt, is poised for torrential rain. An offshore trough combined with moisture-laden air from the Arabian Sea will deliver extremely heavy rainfall (≥210 mm) on 4, 6, and 7 July, with localised flooding and probable travel disruptions. Coastal Karnataka and Kerala-Mahe are included in the warning, with heavy rainfall and strong surface winds (40–50 km/h) expected between 4–9 July. Local flooding may impact Kochi and nearby urban areas.
Central and eastern regions—Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha—will experience consistent heavy to very heavy rainfall from 4 to 7 July owing to cyclonic activity. East Madhya Pradesh and Odisha are expected to get particularly intense downpours, while Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal will see widespread showers accompanied by gusty winds. In the northeast, including Assam and Meghalaya, ongoing cyclonic circulation will sustain moderate to heavy rain until 9 July. Meghalaya is forecasted to receive extremely heavy rainfall (≥210 mm) on 6 July, raising concerns over landslides in high-altitude areas. The IMD also highlighted concentrated rainfall in South India, with intense wet spells across coastal and interior Karnataka and Kerala. These episodes may lead to rough seas and flood-like conditions in low-lying zones.
Delhi–NCR will experience intermittent rain and thunderstorms between 4–6 July, with maximum temperatures dipping to 32–38°C and winds under 20 km/h—offering relief from earlier heat, though also causing waterlogging in urban areas. With multiple regions under red and orange alerts for heavy rain, authorities are urging residents in flood-prone and hilly sectors to exercise caution. The knock-on effects include risk of landslides and traffic disruptions in rural and urban landscapes alike. The IMD continues to closely monitor rainfall patterns and will update warnings as systems evolve.
