Kurnool Launches Danish Asphalt Fibre for Sustainable Durable, Crack-Free Road Network

Kurnool is set to become the first district in Andhra Pradesh to implement Danish Asphalt Fibre Technology in a pilot road project aimed at boosting durability and preventing potholes. Authorities have announced that the initiative will launch between Mudigedu and Sanjamala in the Banaganapalle constituency. The innovative fibre-reinforced asphalt promises longer road life, reduced maintenance costs, and resilience against harsh weather—offering a sustainable solution for deteriorating road infrastructure in the region.

For the first time in Andhra Pradesh, Danish asphalt fibre technology is being piloted on a 15 km stretch of road in the Banaganapalle constituency. The initiative, led by the state’s Roads and Buildings department, aims to address long-standing road maintenance issues by integrating a globally acclaimed reinforcement method into local infrastructure. The technology, previously used in high-traffic zones like the Heathrow Airport and Dubai Metro, involves blending aramid and polyolefin fibres into the asphalt mix. These materials increase structural integrity and resistance to surface deformation, offering roads that are less prone to rutting, cracks, and potholes. Experts estimate that roads built with this method will last over 50% longer than conventional ones. This pilot is not only expected to enhance commuter safety but also reduce the need for frequent repairs, helping the state lower long-term maintenance costs. Engineers will assess performance metrics before scaling it to larger projects.

The adoption of fibre-reinforced asphalt in Kurnool signals a shift toward climate-resilient infrastructure and low-carbon urban development. Given the region’s exposure to extreme heat and seasonal rainfall, conventional roads have often suffered rapid degradation. The integration of high-strength fibres is designed to counter these challenges, distributing stress more evenly across the surface and improving road lifespan.
