Mumbai Metro Line 3’s Aarey-BKC Stretch Nears Operational Milestone with Integrated Trial Run

In a significant stride towards the imminent inauguration of Mumbai Metro Line 3’s inaugural phase, linking Aarey to the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has initiated integrated trial runs along the pivotal stretch.

MMRC

Acting as the project’s implementing authority, MMRC has embarked on comprehensive trials to validate the seamless operation of trains, encompassing compatibility assessments with signaling, telecommunication, track infrastructure, and traction systems. These integration trials serve as a critical precursor to securing certification from the independent safety assessor (ISA) upon successful validation of individual systems.Despite a slight delay attributed to the incomplete construction of the shunting neck, essential for connecting the Aarey depot to the primary line, MMRC remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring operational readiness. The sprawling 33-acre car shed at Aarey stands poised to serve as the central hub for the maintenance of metro coaches catering to Mumbai Metro Line 3’s operational needs.

Marking a historic milestone, Mumbai Metro Line 3 constitutes the city’s maiden underground corridor, spanning a length of 33.5 kilometres from Colaba to Bandra-SEEPZ. This transformative infrastructure endeavour is set to interconnect the bustling Cuffe Parade business district in the southern extremity to SEEPZ in the north-central zone, encompassing 26 underground stations and one at-grade station. With an estimated project outlay of Rs. 33,000 crore, the initiative has garnered financial support from diverse stakeholders, including Japan’s prestigious technical and lending agency, the Japan International Cooperation Agency. Anticipation mounts as the inaugural phase, linking Aarey to BKC, gears up for operational commencement in May, paving the way for enhanced connectivity and mobility options in the city. Furthermore, the ambitious timeline targets the full corridor’s operationalisation, extending up to Cuffe Parade, slated for realisation by September 2024. With Mumbai Metro Line 3 poised to redefine urban mobility paradigms, stakeholders eagerly await the impending transformation heralded by this monumental infrastructure project.
