Adani Power acquires Vidarbha Industries Power for Rs4000 crore and boosts capacity by 600 megawatts

Adani Power Limited has completed the acquisition of Vidarbha Industries Power Limited for ₹4000 crore, adding 600 megawatts of domestic coal-fired capacity to its portfolio. The acquisition was finalized under the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process as per the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code after receiving approval from the Mumbai bench of the National Company Law Tribunal on June 18, 2025. Implementation was completed on July 7.

Located in Nagpur, the 2×300 MW power plant strengthens Adani Power’s position as India’s leading private thermal power producer by increasing its total operational capacity to 18,150 megawatts. The company plans to further expand its energy infrastructure through six ultra-supercritical brownfield plants of 1600 megawatts each in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, and a new greenfield project in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. A revival of an acquired facility in Korba, Chhattisgarh is also underway.

With these developments, Adani Power is targeting a total base load capacity of 30,670 megawatts by 2030. Chief Executive Officer SB Khyalia stated that the acquisition aligns with the national objective of Electricity for All by ensuring affordable and sustainable energy access. The company views the VIPL acquisition as a strategic milestone in its roadmap to support India’s energy security and economic growth.
