Mumbai to Get Relief from Heavy Rain Nagpur Shuts Schools IMD Issues Orange Alert Across States

Mumbai is expected to see an easing of heavy rainfall conditions starting July 10, bringing much-needed relief to residents after days of intense showers and waterlogging. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclonic circulation warning will expire on July 9, with a Yellow Alert remaining in effect for Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar, while Raigad continues under an Orange Alert.

Meanwhile, Nagpur witnessed severe waterlogging due to continuous rain, prompting the District Collector to declare a one-day closure of all schools and colleges on July 9. Similar intense rain spells were recorded in Ayodhya and other parts of the country.

The IMD’s broader weather forecast warns of widespread heavy rainfall across multiple states. Orange Alerts have been issued for Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Gujarat, and Telangana for July 9. This alert extends to other states over the next few days, including prolonged alerts for Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh through July 14.

Moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is expected across East, Central, Northwest, and South Peninsular India. Very heavy rainfall is predicted in the Konkan belt, Goa, parts of Madhya Maharashtra, and Northeast states like Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura.

In Mumbai, the IMD notes that the city has already recorded 28% of its average seasonal rainfall, exceeding June’s normal rainfall due to the early monsoon onset. Starting July 10, the city is expected to return to typical monsoon activity with light to moderate rainfall.
