Pune Successfully Concludes Trials of Indigenous ERASR Anti Submarine Rockets on INS Kavaratti

Pune marked a major milestone in India’s defence capabilities as the Indian Navy successfully completed user trials of the Extended Range Anti Submarine Rocket (ERASR) system, developed by DRDO’s Armament Research and Development Establishment. The trials were conducted between 23 June and 7 July from INS Kavaratti.

The ERASR system, entirely indigenous, is engineered to tackle underwater threats with precision. It is compatible with the Indian Navy’s Indigenous Rocket Launcher (IRL) systems. Developed in collaboration with the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory and the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory, the rocket features a twin-motor configuration that delivers consistent range performance and high accuracy.

A total of 17 ERASR rockets were tested during the trials. These rockets met key performance criteria such as range, warhead functionality, and the successful operation of an indigenously designed electronic time fuze.

Bharat Dynamics Limited in Hyderabad and Solar Defence and Aerospace Limited in Nagpur have been identified as production partners, ensuring local manufacturing scalability. The Defence Ministry has confirmed that the ERASR system is now ready for induction into the Navy.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the successful trials, stating that the system will significantly enhance India’s anti-submarine warfare capabilities and reinforce naval defence readiness.
