Pune-Nashik Highways Face Urgent Repair Call Amid Rising Distress

Maharashtra’s critical Pune-Nashik and Nashik-Mumbai National Highways are in urgent need of comprehensive repairs, a concern formally raised by the state’s Deputy Chief Minister to the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister. In response to the growing concerns, officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have indicated that repair works are currently in progress. They affirmed that efforts have commenced on the Pune-Nashik stretch to address pothole-related complaints, with similar inspections being conducted along the Nashik-Mumbai corridor. NHAI officials further clarified that while the Mumbai-Nashik road spans 142 km under NHAI jurisdiction, a 23.8 km stretch from Vadape to Thane was awarded to a new concessionaire, MSRDC, in 2021, with 80% of construction and 90% of service road work now complete, projected for completion by December 2025. This situation underscores the complexities of multi-agency oversight in large-scale infrastructure projects, where clear communication and coordinated efforts are paramount to ensuring a safe, sustainable, and equitable transport network for all citizens, ultimately fostering economic vitality and improved quality of life.
