GR Infraprojects subsidiary GR Varanasi Kolkata Highway Pvt Ltd has received an NHAI letter dated 8 July 2025 setting the appointed date at 1 July 2025 for Package 7 of the Bharatmala Greenfield expressway, covering a 33.50‑kilometre stretch in Bihar worth ₹1,248.37 crore. The hybrid‑annuity contract spans 730 days, driving forward a sustainable infrastructure push and boosting market confidence.
The Varanasi–Ranchi–Kolkata corridor, designed as a six‑lane greenfield expressway under Bharatmala, aims to strengthen eastern India’s logistics network and reduce travel times across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. This Package 7 initiative will integrate climate‑friendly construction standards to support eco‑conscious urbanisation.
GR Infraprojects, established in 1995 as a pioneer in EPC road construction, offsets environmental impact through green design, sustainable procurement and carbon‑efficient techniques. The firm has shaped over 100 road projects and diversified into rail, telecom and power transmission infrastructure. Its consolidated order book stood at around ₹16,887 crore as of 31 December 2024, indicating robust execution visibility.
Following the announcement, GR Infra’s share price gained approximately 3 per cent intraday at both NSE and BSE, reflecting renewed investor belief in pipeline monetisation and execution credibility. The stock remains 43 per cent above its 52‑week low of ₹902 but below its recent highs.
Despite a 27 per cent year‑on‑year decline in Q4 FY25 net profit (to ₹404 crore) and an 8 per cent drop in revenue, management emphasises recovery underpinned by healthy order flow, including projects in the transmission, metro and rail segments. Order awards worth ₹1,300 billion are undergoing bidding, with an anticipated 9 per cent revenue CAGR through FY27.
In line with the editorial vision of equitable, eco‑friendly urban growth, this project is expected to ease transportation challenges, spur regional development and generate employment, all while adhering to sustainable infrastructure protocols.
GR Infraprojects’ ability to translate this order into on‑ground execution will be pivotal. For eastern India’s cities and citizens, the highway could signal a step toward greener, more inclusive connectivity.
