Pune Metro To Feature Integrated Bus Terminals At Swargate And Civil Court For Better Commuter Access

Pune is set to enhance its public transport infrastructure with the development of integrated bus terminals near Swargate and Civil Court Metro stations. Officials from the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation and Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited are collaborating on this initiative to improve last-mile connectivity and reduce congestion in central parts of the city.

At Swargate, a section of land near Jedhe Chowk, located alongside the irrigation canal, has been designated for a multimodal transport hub. One corner of this plot is already occupied by the Metro station, while the remaining area will accommodate a dedicated bus terminal, vehicle parking, and potentially commercial spaces. The goal is to eliminate the current system of PMPML buses halting on public roads, which has contributed to persistent traffic bottlenecks.

In the Civil Court area, authorities are planning to relocate bus halts to a new terminal space near Kamgar Putala. This part of the city, situated between the Pune Municipal Corporation headquarters and the Civil Court, has long been plagued by traffic disruptions due to buses occupying road space and obstructing pedestrian movement.

Commuters in both zones have responded positively to the plan but have emphasized the need for basic infrastructure at the proposed terminals. They have called for essential amenities such as shelters, seating, lighting, and proper pedestrian access, stressing that these facilities should match the standards seen at Metro stations to ensure user safety and convenience.

Preliminary work for the terminals has already begun, with teams from both transport bodies currently finalising layout and operational plans. Once the hubs are operational, they are expected to streamline bus and Metro access, improve traffic flow, and offer safer and more comfortable transit options for thousands of daily commuters.
