Mumbai Declared Loudspeaker Free At Over 1600 Religious Sites Under Statewide Noise Control Drive

Mumbai has been declared loudspeaker-free at over 1,600 religious sites as part of a wider noise pollution control campaign underway across Maharashtra. A total of 3,367 loudspeakers have been removed from places of worship throughout the state.

Officials confirmed that the majority of removals in Mumbai have been carried out in coordination with local religious bodies, ensuring a cooperative rather than confrontational implementation. The aim is to create quieter urban environments while respecting the sanctity of religious practices. Authorities stated that this initiative reflects a growing focus on public health, particularly in densely populated cities like Mumbai where noise pollution has been a persistent concern.

The government is expected to continue monitoring compliance across districts, with future phases potentially including commercial and residential zones depending on feedback and effectiveness of the current measures.
