Pune To See Two New Railway Terminals At Hadapsar And Khadki Soon Boosting Connectivity

In Pune, railways is fast-tracking the development of new railway terminals at Hadapsar and Khadki, aiming to significantly reduce the operational burden on Pune Railway Station. These upcoming facilities, crucial for decentralizing train services, are expected to be operational soon, with yard and track connections nearing completion by July-end. The initiative seeks to enhance regional connectivity, improve passenger facilities, and introduce new train services, promising greater convenience for commuters in the region and South India.

Currently, the work to connect the extensive yards and tracks at both terminals is underway, with completion anticipated by the end of July. These upgrades are part of Indian Railways’ broader strategy to decentralize train operations from the heavily burdened Pune Junction, which presently manages between 170 to 180 trains daily, including 83 originating directly from the station. The new terminals are poised to handle a portion of this rail traffic, offering enhanced passenger facilities such as foot overbridges, waiting rooms, and restrooms, which are progressing steadily and expected to be completed within the next two months.

While official approval for new train services is still awaited, proposals for their launch from these new terminals have already been submitted. The plan envisions Khadki serving as a hub for trains heading towards Mumbai and Gujarat, while Hadapsar is set to become the starting point for services bound for Solapur and South India. This strategic division aims to improve regional connectivity and reduce travel time for numerous commuters, offering more direct and efficient routes.

It is important to note that the railway administration has confirmed that none of the existing services will have their terminals shifted from Pune Junction. This decision ensures continuity for current travel routines and avoids inconvenience for passengers. The primary focus remains on introducing entirely new services from Hadapsar and Khadki once they are fully operational, maintaining Pune Junction’s importance while meeting rising passenger demand and enhancing overall operational efficiency.

This strategic expansion underscores Indian Railways’ commitment to modernizing infrastructure and meeting rising passenger demand. By decentralizing operations and improving facilities, these terminals will contribute to a more efficient and sustainable rail network. This development is key to fostering seamless regional connectivity and supporting Pune’s growth as a major transit hub, ensuring smoother journeys for thousands.
