Madhya Pradesh 12 Gates Of Bansujara Dam Open Amidst Flood Like Situation From Heavy Rains

Madhya Pradesh is experiencing a severe flood-like situation across many parts of the state, particularly in the Bundelkhand region, following continuous heavy monsoon rains. Downpours have significantly impacted several districts, prompting swift action from authorities as river levels rise. The relentless precipitation continues to challenge local infrastructure and ongoing rescue operations, creating widespread disruption and highlighting the urgent need for robust flood management strategies across the affected areas.

In Tikamgarh, continuous heavy rains necessitated the opening of all 12 gates of the Bansujara Dam, releasing water at a rate of 1,320 cubic meters per second into the Dhasan river. This surge is expected to cause flood-like conditions in surrounding areas. Similarly, seven gates of the Bansagar Dam and five gates of the Bargi Dam have been opened to manage water levels. In Chhatarpur, the breach of the Padariya Dam led to the evacuation of fifty families from affected villages, with emergency response teams deployed.

Further south, in Raisen, a culvert over the Begum river was submerged, forcing locals to cross at significant risk in an area lacking a proper bridge. Vidisha has also seen a dramatic increase in the water level of the Betwa River and its tributaries, with strong currents causing widespread waterlogging. Rainfall figures for the last 24 hours highlight the intensity, with Bijawar recording 303mm, Tikamgarh 215mm, and Orchha 199mm, indicating the severity of the monsoon’s impact across these regions.

These heavy rains underscore the vital need for robust water management and resilient urban planning. The flooding highlights challenges in infrastructure and necessitates immediate measures for equitable resource distribution and climate adaptation.
