Pune 96 Unauthorized Structures Demolished In Wakad For Road Widening

In Pune, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has conducted a large-scale demolition drive in the Kalakhadak slum area of Wakad, clearing 96 unauthorized structures to facilitate crucial road widening. These structures, spread over approximately 46,000 square feet, were obstructing the expansion of a 45-meter road, a key infrastructure project for the city. Under the guidance of the Commissioner and Administrator, the civic body systematically initiated the clearance of unauthorized slums, shanties, shops, and brick structures along a 250-meter stretch with a 16-meter width in Kalakhadak, ensuring efficient progress of the development.

Senior officials from various departments, including anti-encroachment, slum clearance, town planning, urban transport (BRTS), and electrical, were present during the extensive drive. The operation was efficiently executed using one Pokland machine, seven JCBs, four dumpers, and 15 laborers. The Commissioner and Administrator affirmed that strict action is being taken against all unauthorized constructions obstructing development projects across Pimpri Chinchwad, with directives issued for their immediate removal. An Additional Commissioner further noted that instructions have also been given to take similar action against such structures in other zones of the city, indicating a broader crackdown.

Following the demolition, PCMC swiftly commenced the road widening work at Wakad. Plans are now underway to relocate essential services like electric poles and water pipelines that obstruct the project. The widened road is expected to significantly resolve persistent traffic congestion in the area, particularly benefiting commuters traveling towards Bhumkar Chowk, Hinjawadi, Thergaon, and Pimpri. This infrastructure upgrade aims to substantially ease daily travel and reduce inconvenience for thousands of residents and commuters in this rapidly developing part of the city, promoting smoother and more sustainable urban transport.

This decisive action by the PCMC underscores the commitment to modern urban infrastructure and sustainable transport solutions. By removing encroachments, the civic body aims to improve regional connectivity and enhance the quality of life for residents. Such initiatives are crucial for Pune’s planned development, ensuring efficient traffic flow and a more organized urban landscape.
