Delhi-Meerut RRTS, three newly constructed Namo Bharat stations—Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, and Modipuram—in Meerut are set to become operational by the end of July. This significant step brings the 82-kilometer high-speed corridor closer to full commissioning, promising a revolutionary shift in regional connectivity. These stations, located between Meerut South and Modipuram, represent a major milestone for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor. The expansion reflects ongoing efforts to deliver modern, integrated public transport, enhancing commuter experience and fostering economic growth across the National Capital Region.
In parallel to the Meerut expansion, Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan station, envisioned as a major multi-modal hub, is also nearing completion. This crucial interchange will seamlessly connect passengers to the Delhi Metro’s Pink Line, Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, Veer Haqeeqat Rai ISBT, and the Ring Road, vastly improving inter-modal transfers. To further enhance connectivity, a 280-meter-long Foot Over Bridge (FOB) featuring six travelators is being built to link Sarai Kale Khan with Hazrat Nizamuddin station, streamlining pedestrian movement in the often-congested area. The Namo Bharat project is pioneering shared infrastructure, with Meerut Metro services also successfully running on the same tracks. This marks a first in India, demonstrating advanced integration for both regional and urban transit, leveraging resources efficiently for broader public benefit.
Each of the three new Meerut stations presents unique features. Shatabdi Nagar is an elevated station designed to serve both Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro trains, ensuring versatile connectivity. Begumpul, located underground in the bustling heart of Meerut’s market, stands as one of the largest stations along the corridor, equipped to handle high passenger volumes. Modipuram, situated along the National Highway, has completed its civil work, including a dedicated foot overbridge to ensure safe pedestrian access. Recently, a successful full-length trial run was conducted from Sarai Kale Khan to Modipuram, where Namo Bharat trains achieved speeds of 160 kmph, covering the entire 82-kilometer stretch in under an hour. This trial also confirmed the smooth operation of Meerut Metro services on the same infrastructure. With 55 kilometers of the corridor already operational, and the remaining sections primed for commissioning, the Namo Bharat project is steadily advancing towards becoming a model for modern, integrated public transport.
The impending operationalization of three new stations in Meerut signifies substantial progress for the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor. This expansion, coupled with multi-modal integration and shared infrastructure, promises faster, more efficient, and interconnected travel.
