Delhi Government Announces Major Reforms Laptops for Students Enhanced Rewards for Athletes

Delhi’s government has unveiled a series of significant reforms aimed at empowering the youth, students, and athletes. In a recent Cabinet meeting, under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, several key initiatives were approved, including a scheme to provide free laptops to high-achieving students and a massive increase in cash awards and job opportunities for medal-winning athletes. These decisions, announced by Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood, are part of a broader strategy to drive inclusive development and digital education in the capital.

Under the new “Mukhyamantri Digital Scheme,” 1,200 academically meritorious Class 10 students will be awarded high-performance i7 laptops, with a total budget of ₹8 crore allocated for the initiative. The government is also establishing an additional 175 ICT labs, each equipped with 40 computers, to strengthen the digital infrastructure in schools. In a separate push for sports, the “Mukhyamantri Khel Protsahan Yojana” has been revised to offer historic cash prizes and government jobs.

Olympic gold medalists will now receive ₹7 crore, silver medalists ₹5 crore, and bronze medalists ₹3 crore. This provision now extends to Commonwealth and Asian Games winners, who will also receive significant cash awards. Additionally, Olympic and Asian Games gold and silver medalists will be eligible for Group A government jobs, with bronze medalists qualifying for Group B positions. To support aspiring talent, students from Class 6 to 12 can receive up to ₹5 lakh in training assistance.

The new policies are designed to nurture talent in both academics and sports from a young age, ensuring that students from all backgrounds have the resources to succeed. These decisions mark a strong commitment to human resource development.
