Delhi Metro to Begin Early Services on Independence Day at 4 AM

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced the commencement of early services from 4 am across all lines on Independence Day, aimed at facilitating smooth travel for invitees, special guests, and the general public attending the national celebrations. Officials confirmed that the metro will operate at 30-minute intervals between 4 am and 6 am before reverting to standard schedules for the remainder of the day, ensuring timely and convenient connectivity for early commuters.

Special arrangements have been made for individuals holding bonafide invitation cards issued by the Ministry of Defence. These travellers will receive dedicated QR-based metro tickets, with travel expenses reimbursed by the Ministry. The nearest stations for accessing the Independence Day venue include Lal Quila, Jama Masjid, and Delhi Gate, strategically positioned to manage crowd movement efficiently. Security remains a key focus this Independence Day, with DMRC implementing heightened checks across stations. Officials have urged passengers to plan journeys in advance and cooperate with security personnel, particularly during peak hours, to maintain a smooth flow and ensure public safety. These measures are part of broader coordination between transport authorities and security agencies ahead of the high-profile event.

In the National Capital Region, traffic management has also been prioritised. Gurgaon and Faridabad authorities have imposed temporary restrictions on heavy vehicle movement to minimise congestion and enhance security. In Gurgaon, heavy vehicles are barred from entering Delhi during two key periods: from 5 pm on August 12 to 1:30 pm on August 13, and from 5 pm on August 14 to 1:30 pm on August 15. Similarly, Faridabad has witnessed a complete prohibition on heavy vehicle entry towards Delhi from 10 pm on August 12 to 2 pm on August 13 for the rehearsal, and from 10 pm on August 14 to 2 pm on August 15 for the Independence Day ceremony. Experts note that these coordinated efforts between metro authorities, traffic police, and security agencies demonstrate a comprehensive approach to urban mobility during high-demand events. By adjusting metro schedules and controlling vehicular traffic, the city ensures efficient transport solutions while maintaining security and minimizing environmental impact.

Encouraging public transport use during national events also supports sustainable urban mobility, reducing reliance on private vehicles and contributing to lower carbon emissions. Officials emphasised that the early metro operations, coupled with strategic traffic management, are critical in delivering a seamless experience for residents and visitors alike. They urged commuters to stay informed of schedule changes, follow security protocols, and utilise the metro as the preferred mode of transport to ensure timely participation in Independence Day celebrations. Delhi Metro’s proactive measures underscore the city’s commitment to smart, secure, and sustainable urban transport solutions, balancing public convenience with safety imperatives during large-scale national events.
