Power Ministry Forges Research Alliance to Drive Sustainable Energy Innovation

Embarking on a significant endeavour to advance sustainable development goals and drive innovation within the energy industry, the National Power Training Institute (NPTI) and Power Trading Corporation of India Limited (PTC)

have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Research and Development (R&D). The collaboration, announced by the Union Ministry of Power, underscores a concerted effort to address pressing challenges in the energy domain while aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined by the United Nations. Signed during a ceremony at the ministry’s office in New Delhi, the MoU signifies a strategic partnership aimed at leveraging expertise and resources to drive impactful research initiatives in the energy sector. Dr Tripta Thakur, Director General of NPTI, and Koel Singhal, Senior Vice President (HR) of PTC India Ltd, formalised the agreement in the presence of dignitaries including Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary of the Ministry of Power. At the heart of this collaboration is the establishment of a Centre of Excellence dedicated to research, development, and knowledge dissemination in the energy domain. With a primary focus on advancing sustainable development goals, the CoE will spearhead initiatives aimed at enhancing societal well-being while minimising environmental impact.

Key objectives of the CoE include conducting cutting-edge research on renewable energy integration, energy efficiency, grid modernisation, and rural electrification. By harnessing the collective expertise of NPTI and PTC India Ltd, the CoE aims to pioneer innovative solutions that propel India towards a greener and more sustainable energy future. Furthermore, the outcomes of the CoE’s research endeavours will be disseminated to industry stakeholders through comprehensive training and capacity-building programs, ensuring effective knowledge transfer and empowerment within the power sector. With the establishment of the CoE for R&D in the Energy Domain, NPTI and PTC India Ltd embark on a collaborative journey poised to redefine the future of India’s energy landscape, driving sustainable development and innovation in the pursuit of a greener tomorrow.
