HMWSSB Initiates Revival of Two Water Treatment Plants to Meet Escalating Demand

In response to the escalating demand for potable water in select areas of Hyderabad, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has announced the reactivation of two Modular Water Treatment Plants (MWTPs)

situated between the Osman Sagar water conduit line and Asif Nagar filter beds. These facilities are poised to draw raw water at a capacity of two million litres per day (MLD), with plans for the installation of additional two MLD Plants along the conduit line. Scheduled for completion by the end of the week, the reactivated MWTPs will alleviate the strain on water resources, particularly during the forthcoming three-month period from April to June 2024. Strategically positioned, these plants will efficiently treat raw water from the Osman Sagar conduit, employing advanced methodologies including ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, and ozonation.

A distinguishing feature of these MWTPs is their modular design, facilitating rapid deployment and operation. This agility is instrumental in addressing immediate water scarcity challenges, with the treated water slated for distribution through dedicated water filling stations and tanker deliveries to proximate locales including Tadbund, Karwan, Shaikpet, Rajendranagar, Serilingampally, Jubilee Hills, and Manikonda. The decision to restore and augment these MWTPs underscores HMWSSB’s commitment to ensuring sustainable water supply amidst fluctuating demand dynamics. With a focus on resilience and responsiveness, this initiative signifies a pivotal step towards bolstering the city’s water infrastructure and fostering community resilience in the face of evolving challenges.
