Hyderabad Rains Forecast Warns Southern And Eastern Zones Of Downpour

Hyderabad is preparing for yet another round of heavy showers, with weather authorities warning of significant rainfall across select zones of the city on Thursday. Data suggests that the southern and eastern belts are expected to witness the sharpest downpour, while other regions may see only mild precipitation before conditions ease out toward the weekend.

The Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) has projected rainfall ranging between 15.6 mm and 64.5 mm between Thursday morning and Friday morning. Areas in the historic core and fast-expanding southern suburbs, including Charminar, Malakpet, Santosh Nagar, and Rajendranagar, are most likely to face intense rain activity. In contrast, localities such as Kukatpally, Quthbullapur, and Alwal are forecasted to remain relatively less impacted with lighter showers.Officials noted that the intensity of rainfall is expected to gradually taper from Friday onwards, leaving only scattered light rain across the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits. By Sunday, the city is predicted to shift back to drier weather conditions. This short yet intense burst of rain is consistent with the erratic monsoon pattern that urban experts say has increasingly complicated infrastructure planning and mobility management in Hyderabad.

Rapid urbanisation without parallel upgrades in climate-resilient infrastructure, they argue, leaves Hyderabad vulnerable to both flooding and prolonged civic inconvenience.City planners stress the need to reimagine Hyderabad’s stormwater management system in light of unpredictable weather.

Experts also underline the urgency of integrating sustainable, zero-carbon solutions into drainage upgrades, ensuring eco-friendly urban mobility, and creating equitable public infrastructure that can withstand recurring spells of extreme weather.While Thursday’s rains are not expected to create a citywide disruption, officials caution residents in the marked high-rainfall zones to exercise care during travel hours.
