have joined forces to champion the cause of circular economy. Under the auspices of SIAM’s Chakriyata initiative, the apex body for the automobile sector collaborated with MPCB to organize a “Circularity Workshop” focused on the theme of “Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR): An Innovative Policy Tool for Fostering a Sustainable Circular Economy in the Automotive Industry.” The workshop, held in Mumbai, served as a pivotal platform for industry stakeholders and government representatives to engage in insightful discussions and strategize actionable measures aimed at promoting sustainable mobility through effective waste management, recycling initiatives, and adherence to circularity principles. At its core, the event aimed to harness the potential of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) as a strategic mechanism to propel the automotive sector towards a circular economy paradigm. The inaugural session of the workshop was graced by Prashant K. Banerjee, Executive Director of SIAM, who underscored the automobile industry’s unwavering commitment to sustainability. Highlighting SIAM’s Chakriyata initiative, Banerjee emphasized the organization’s focus on fostering a robust recycling ecosystem within the country. He further emphasized the significance of collaborative efforts, stating that the workshop, by bringing together key stakeholders from the automotive recycling ecosystem, serves as a catalyst for innovation and alignment towards realizing the government’s vision of circularity.

The collaboration between SIAM and MPCB underscores the industry’s recognition of the imperative to embrace sustainable practices and mitigate environmental impact. By leveraging platforms such as the Circularity Workshop, stakeholders are poised to explore novel ideas, foster collaboration, and drive collective action towards achieving a circular economy in the automotive sector. As the automotive industry continues to navigate the evolving landscape of sustainability, initiatives like the Circularity Workshop stand as testament to the industry’s proactive approach in addressing environmental challenges and advancing the circular economy agenda. Through concerted efforts and collaborative initiatives, SIAM and MPCB pave the way for a greener, more sustainable future for India’s automotive sector.
