Navi Mumbai’s long-awaited international airport has crossed a significant operational milestone with its first-ever aircraft landing. A private charter jet arriving from Ahmedabad touched down on the greenfield runway this weekend, marking the airport’s debut as a functional aviation hub.
Officials confirmed that the jet, flying under a non-scheduled operator permit, landed at 10:20am on Saturday and departed the following day. While earlier validation and demonstration flights had tested the runway’s navigational systems, this is the first time an aircraft carrying passengers officially operated under a civil aviation approval at the new facility. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) authorised the temporary operation by amending its earlier notification that had closed the runway for routine works. For two short operational windows over the weekend, the runway was declared open, enabling the private jet to complete its arrival and departure.
