Thane Traffic Alert: Kapurbawdi Roads CLOSED Overnight Nov 4-6 for Metro Work

The Thane Police has issued a temporary traffic advisory in Kapurbawdi, effective from November 4 to November 6, due to ongoing girder installation for metro pillars 12 and 13 near the Nalpada signal. Residents and commuters have been advised to anticipate route closures and plan alternative travel, as the work will require complete closure of certain road stretches during nighttime hours.

Traffic restrictions are scheduled from 11:30 PM to 5:30 AM on both November 4–5 and November 5–6, impacting vehicles travelling through critical junctions connecting Ghodbunder Road, Kolshet Road, and local neighbourhood arteries. According to an official, the closures are necessary to ensure the safe lifting and placement of girders for the metro infrastructure, which is part of Thane’s broader urban mobility expansion. Key affected routes include the stretch from Ghodbunder Thane Vahini Slip Road via Kapurbawdi Circle towards Bhiwandi and Nashik, which will be closed at the Broadway Petrol Pump. Commuters are advised to divert via Podbandar Thane Vahini and Majiwada Bridge. Similarly, vehicles travelling from Kolshet Road to Thane via Kapurbawdi Circle will be restricted at Nandibaba Mandir Chowk, with a recommended left turn diversion through the Ward Committee Chowk. Traffic heading to Kolshet Kade via the Nalarada signal will also be rerouted through Puravadi Junction to ensure uninterrupted metro operations.

Officials emphasised that the temporary measures are designed to balance construction efficiency with public safety. Emergency vehicles, including police, ambulances, fire brigade units, and oxygen transport vehicles, will be exempted from restrictions to maintain essential services. Urban planners note that such interventions, while disruptive in the short term, are critical for sustainable city mobility. The metro expansion in Thane aims to reduce vehicular congestion, lower carbon emissions, and improve commuter experience in one of India’s rapidly densifying urban corridors.

An official from the metro project highlighted that public communication and alternative routing are key to mitigating inconvenience during construction. Residents are encouraged to follow local signage, use designated diversions, and plan travel outside peak hours where possible. The advisory is expected to remain in effect until the completion of the girder installation on November 6. The initiative reflects the city’s commitment to building long-term sustainable infrastructure while actively managing urban traffic flow, demonstrating a balance between growth and commuter safety.
