The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has issued a tender for the design, manufacture, and installation of signage and graphics across six elevated stations on Metro Line 4. The contract, valued at ₹12.33 crore, aims to improve navigation, commuter convenience, and accessibility along the 32.32-kilometre corridor connecting Wadala to Kasarvadavali, which spans 30 stations in total. Officials highlight that these improvements will not only enhance passenger experience but also support a more inclusive, sustainable urban transit system.
Metro Line 4 is a critical artery in Mumbai’s expanding rapid transit network, connecting densely populated residential and commercial hubs across the eastern suburbs and Thane district. The six stations covered under this contract—Bhakti Park, Wadala TT, Anik Bus Depot, Suman Nagar, Siddharth Colony, and Amar Mahal Junction—will feature updated graphics and signage designed to assist commuters in wayfinding, provide safety information, and integrate real-time digital updates. “Clear, intuitive signage is essential to ensure the metro remains accessible for all, including first-time travellers, senior citizens, and differently-abled passengers,” said a senior MMRDA official. The tender was opened on 18 November 2025 and will close on 25 November 2025, with a pre-bid meeting held on 21 November. The Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) for participating bidders has been set at ₹1 lakh, reflecting the strategic importance of the contract. The six-month project duration underscores the urgency of completing the works ahead of full operational integration with Mumbai’s broader metro network, which is designed to enhance commuter efficiency and reduce reliance on road transport.
Industry experts note that updating metro station infrastructure with well-designed signage contributes significantly to operational efficiency and passenger satisfaction. With Line 4 connecting key urban nodes such as Vikhroli, Mulund, and Thane, the project also aligns with broader city goals to create zero-carbon, equitable transit corridors. “Effective station graphics reduce commuter confusion, speed up transfers, and ultimately support cleaner mobility by encouraging public transport usage over private vehicles,” an urban mobility planner explained. As part of the project, contractors will handle the complete cycle from design and manufacture to testing and commissioning, ensuring uniformity and compliance with safety standards. The corridor itself integrates with other metro lines, suburban railway stations, and bus terminals, making it a pivotal link in Mumbai’s multi-modal transport ecosystem. Officials also emphasise that the signage initiative complements technological upgrades being showcased at InnoMetro 2026, India’s leading metro and railway expo, highlighting AI-integrated systems for better commuter experience.
