Mumbai Metro Offers 25 Percent Fare Concession For Differently Abled Passengers Line 3

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) has introduced a 25 per cent fare concession for differently-abled commuters on Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line. The move, effective from 23 November 2025, aims to promote inclusivity in the city’s public transport network, ensuring equitable access for all passengers across the fully underground corridor stretching from Aarey to Cuffe Parade.

Metro Line 3, equipped with air-conditioned stations, modern signalling, and accessibility-friendly design, represents a significant milestone in Mumbai’s urban mobility landscape. Officials from MMRCL emphasised that the concession will be available through the MetroConnect-3 app, initially on the iOS platform, with the Android version pending regulatory approval. Monthly passes for differently-abled commuters will also benefit from a 25 per cent discount once ticketing updates are implemented. “This initiative is part of our broader inclusive mobility strategy,” said a senior MMRCL official. “By reducing financial barriers for differently-abled passengers, we hope to create a public transit system that is accessible, efficient, and equitable for all.”

Advocates welcomed the announcement, highlighting that fare concessions are only one aspect of an inclusive transit ecosystem. Industry experts pointed out that physical accessibility, user-friendly interfaces, and real-time assistance are equally critical for enabling independent and safe commuting for persons with disabilities. “Fare reductions are a positive step, but infrastructure and technology must fully support accessibility to achieve true equity,” noted an urban transport consultant. The MMRCL initiative aligns with global trends of integrating inclusive policies in mass transit planning. By providing financial incentives alongside accessible station designs, the corporation seeks to enhance ridership among marginalised groups while promoting sustainable, low-carbon commuting solutions. The fully underground Aqua Line minimises surface congestion and supports a zero-carbon urban transport vision.

Passenger associations have called for further measures, including tactile guidance paths, elevators, and priority seating, to complement the fare concessions. MMRCL confirmed ongoing efforts to implement these features systematically, emphasising that accessibility improvements will continue across operations, technology, and passenger services. With the fare concessions now active, differently-abled commuters can expect more affordable travel, while the city moves closer to establishing an equitable, inclusive metro system that addresses the mobility needs of all residents.
