Central Railway’s Suburban Services Disrupted by Signal Failure

Mumbai’s bustling suburban train network faced a severe setback as a signal failure disrupted services along the Central Railway’s main corridor during peak hours on Monday morning.

According to officials, the failure, originating in Thane, resulted in a complete halt of suburban services in the region from 9:16 am onwards. Commuters bore the brunt of the disruption, with trains bunching up on both sides of Thane station, causing significant delays and inconvenience. The morning rush hour saw large crowds of office-goers stranded at various stations along the route, awaiting the resumption of services. Efforts to rectify the issue were expedited, and the signalling system was restored by 10:15 am, allowing services to resume on all lines. The Central Railway spokesperson emphasised the swift response in restoring operations, alleviating the disruption caused to lakhs of daily commuters.

The Central Railway’s suburban network spans from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in south Mumbai to Kalyan in Thane district and Khopoli in Raigad, serving as a vital lifeline for the region’s daily commuters. The incident underscores the critical importance of maintaining robust infrastructure and contingency measures to mitigate disruptions in Mumbai’s bustling transportation network. “Due to the signal failure at Thane on all lines, services between Kalyan (in Thane) and Kurla (in Mumbai) are affected,” the spokesperson said.
