India’s Greenko ZeroC to Export 500,000 Tonnes of Green Ammonia to Yara Clean Ammonia

India’s growing prowess in renewable energy, Greenko ZeroC, the green ammonia production arm of AM Green, has entered into a transformative agreement with Yara Clean Ammonia of Norway.

This landmark deal, signed for a duration of 10 years, entails the supply of 500,000 tonnes of green ammonia from AM Green’s production facility in Kakinada, India, to Yara Clean Ammonia, a global leader in ammonia trading and distribution. Under the terms of the agreement, Greenko ZeroC will provide up to 50% of the renewable ammonia produced from phase one of its 1 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) production facility in Kakinada. Commencing in the fourth quarter of calendar year 2026, this long-term supply contract is estimated to have a contract value ranging from $1.5 to 1.8 billion, according to industry sources.

AM Green, spearheaded by the founders of Hyderabad-based Greenko Group, aims to emerge as one of the most competitive producers of green hydrogen, green ammonia, and other sustainable molecules globally. Green ammonia, derived from green hydrogen produced through electrolysis using renewable energy sources, holds immense potential for reducing carbon emissions in various industries, particularly in fertiliser production and industrial chemicals. With a strategic focus on leveraging renewable energy sources, Greenko ZeroC plans to utilize 5 gigawatts of 24X7 solar and wind power, along with its pumped storage facility in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, for green ammonia production. Additionally, the company has formed a joint venture with Belgium-based John Cockerill to manufacture electrolysers with a capacity of 2 GW per annum.

For Yara Clean Ammonia, the supply of renewable ammonia from Greenko ZeroC will play a pivotal role in producing low-emission fertilisers and decarbonising industries such as shipping and power. This collaboration underscores the shared commitment of both companies to advance sustainability goals and promote the adoption of clean energy solutions on a global scale. The renewable ammonia produced by AM Green’s platform will adhere to EU Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) and Renewable Energy Directive requirements, aligning with the EU’s ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote renewable energy sources. By fostering partnerships and driving innovation in green energy production, India is poised to emerge as a key player in the global transition towards a sustainable and low-carbon future.
