Bengaluru Traffic Alert Hebbal Flyover Work and Alternative Routes
The Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) has embarked on a major road infrastructure project to expand the Hebbal flyover by adding two additional lanes.
This initiative, aimed at alleviating congestion and improving traffic flow, has necessitated significant traffic restrictions and rerouting. Starting from April 17, 2024, the Hebbal flyover will be closed to all vehicular traffic, except for two-wheelers. This restriction is a consequence of the extensive work required to add the new lanes. Moreover, two spans of the existing KR Puram ramp, which connects to the main flyover, need to be dismantled. This operation has rendered the ramp non-motorable, disconnecting it from the flyover. Consequently, effective from May 14, 2024, the KR Puram up-ramp of the Hebbal flyover is closed to all vehicles until the completion of the infrastructure work. To mitigate the impact on commuters, the Bengaluru traffic police have issued an advisory outlining alternative route:
In an additional effort to enhance road safety on Kempegowda International Airport Road, the BDA has installed speed trap cameras to monitor and curb over speeding. This measure comes in response to a rise in traffic accidents attributed to over speeding. The legal speed limit on this stretch is set at 80 km per hour, and violators will be automatically fined. The BDA’s ongoing projects and the traffic police’s advisories aim to ensure a smooth transition during the construction phase while maintaining safety and minimising inconvenience to commuters. As the city navigates these infrastructural changes, the cooperation of the public and adherence to the new traffic regulations are crucial for the successful completion of the project and the enhancement of Bengaluru’s Road infrastructure.
