Goa, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand Brace for Heavy Rainfall

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall across several states, including Goa, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand, on June 24. A yellow alert has also been issued for Delhi, forecasting thunderstorms and moderate showers. Strong surface winds are expected in coastal regions, with the Southwest Monsoon advancing further into North and West India in the next 48 hours, intensifying weather activity nationwide.

Several parts of Central and East India are likely to receive intense rain over the next few days. Madhya Pradesh may see extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 20 cm in isolated areas, while Jharkhand, Odisha, Bihar, and Chhattisgarh are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rain from June 24 to 27. These weather patterns are likely to be accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, potentially impacting transport and local infrastructure.

In West India, Goa, Konkan, Gujarat, and Madhya Maharashtra are on alert as moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast from June 24 through June 29. The IMD has also warned of isolated very heavy rainfall in Konkan on June 24. Commuters and residents in coastal regions are advised to stay cautious due to the risk of flooding, waterlogging, and reduced visibility during travel.

Northwest India, including Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, and parts of Punjab and Haryana, is expected to experience moderate to heavy rainfall, with thunderstorms and lightning. Uttarakhand and Himachal may receive very heavy rain between June 24 and 27. The IMD has also forecast isolated rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, with varying intensity throughout the week, potentially affecting outdoor activities and pilgrim routes.

In Southern and Northeastern India, heavy rainfall is expected over Kerala, Karnataka, and Arunachal Pradesh. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is likely in most regions, including Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The IMD has warned of strong surface winds ranging from 40 to 60 kmph in coastal areas, which may disrupt ferry operations, cause rough seas, and lead to tree fall or structural damage.

With monsoon conditions intensifying across the country, the IMD’s alerts highlight the need for preparedness, particularly in flood-prone and hilly areas. Commuters are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall hours, while residents in coastal and riverine zones should remain alert. As the Southwest Monsoon continues its advance, timely advisories and local coordination will be key in managing weather-related disruptions effectively.
