Recent reports indicate that the state is inviting airlines to operate international services from both Patna\u2019s main airport and Gaya, which already handles seasonal overseas traffic linked to religious tourism. The proposed routes include connections to Kathmandu, Bangkok and Singapore \u2014 destinations that are closely aligned with the region\u2019s growing tourism and migrant travel demand. <\/span>The push is particularly significant because Patna has not had regular international flights for decades despite being officially designated as a customs-notified airport. According to a government reply in Parliament, airlines are already permitted to operate international routes from Patna to countries in the SAARC and ASEAN regions, including Nepal, Thailand and Singapore. For the urban economy, direct international connectivity could have a significant multiplier effect. Improved air access typically boosts real estate demand around airports, strengthens the hospitality sector and encourages investment in education, healthcare and services that depend on reliable travel links. Cities that gain new international routes often see faster growth in both tourism-related businesses and knowledge-driven sectors that rely on mobility. <\/span>However, experts caution that the success of the initiative will depend on more than route announcements.
