The latest developments highlight the advancement of the 2.40 km underground segment stretching from Swadeshi Cotton Mill to Kanpur Central. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A pivotal achievement has been the successful completion of 90 metres of tunnel by the \u2018Azad\u2019 Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) on the up-line, marking the end of its initial drive. Additionally, the \u2018Vidyarthi\u2019 TBM has been successfully lowered into the launching shaft near Swadeshi Cotton Mill, preparing for its upcoming mission towards Kanpur Central. Both TBMs are set to work concurrently on this final stretch. The Kanpur Metro project has accomplished approximately 5.50 km of underground tunnelling from McRobertganj to Kanpur Central. With the focus now on the remaining 2.40 km segment, the project has seen significant progress. The \u2018Azad\u2019 TBM, which commenced its operations in July, has completed its initial drive, characterised by a crucial 90-metre excavation phase.<\/p>\n<p>During this phase, the Backup System Unit, which houses the TBM\u2019s auxiliary systems, operates above ground. The unit is currently being lowered underground and will soon be connected to the TBM\u2019s shield to facilitate the transition to the main drive. As the tunnelling continues, the main drive phase will begin, accelerating the excavation process. A loco pilot will assist in this phase to enhance the efficiency of tunnel construction.
