The city of Bhubaneswar is set to witness development of smart footpaths equipped with pedestrian-friendly elements, according to the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA). A meeting was recently held with officials from various organisations including the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), the Odisha Forest Development Corporation (OFDC), R&B, Watco, TPCODL, BDA and BSC to discuss the project. Work on the smart footpaths will commence soon, and guidelines outlining the necessary requirements and restrictions will be formulated.<\/p>\n
The primary focus of the project is to create pedestrian-friendly and safe footpaths and walkways throughout the city. The initiative is part of the Housing and Urban Development department’s plan to introduce smart footpaths in Bhubaneswar, Berhampur and Rourkela. The first phase of the project aims to complete the development by November 2023.<\/p>\n
To ensure the effective design of the smart footpaths, the government plans to engage services of a private agency. Initially, 100 km stretch of footpath roads has been identified for development. As part of the project, a comprehensive survey will be conducted to identify any encroachments on footpaths due to vending or unauthorised construction activities.<\/p>\n
