The Railway Department has lodged a formal complaint with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to address the growing issue.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Passengers, particularly those exiting the railway station or heading toward the bus station, have been found engaging in open defecation, contributing to a foul smell and unsanitary surroundings. In response to increasing complaints, especially from female passengers, Pune Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Indu Dubey conducted an inspection and urged Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale to take immediate corrective measures.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Illegal Stalls Contributing to the Problem<\/strong><br \/>\nThe area around the station is busy, with numerous food and pan stalls along the boundary walls of the parking lot and parcel section. Many of these stalls have been abandoned and are now being used informally for urination. DRM Dubey emphasized that this has led to unsanitary conditions, with women passengers being particularly affected by the situation. \u201cWe have received an increasing number of complaints from women passengers about the unhygienic conditions,\u201d said Dubey.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Health and Hygiene Concerns<\/strong><br \/>\nThe illegal stalls and misuse of public spaces for urination pose significant health risks, particularly given the high traffic in the area. \u201cThe continued unsanitary conditions and the foul smell can be hazardous to public health,\u201d warned Dubey, urging PMC to act swiftly to mitigate the situation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Availability of Free Toilets Yet Unused<\/strong><br \/>\nDespite the availability of free public toilets outside the railway station, many individuals continue to relieve themselves at the boundary walls, exacerbating the problem. \u201cPassengers and citizens are urged to use the designated facilities to prevent this unsanitary behavior, which causes embarrassment, especially for women,\u201d Dubey appealed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PMC\u2019s Response Still Awaited<\/strong><br \/>\nWhen contacted, PMC Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale declined to comment on the issue. However, DRM Dubey emphasized the urgency of the matter, stating that the installation of urinals along the boundary wall has not deterred the ongoing practice of public urination.
