Kochi has marked a significant milestone in India’s transportation landscape with the commencement of commercial operations of the country’s inaugural water Metro. In April, the Water Metro in Kochi began its services, connecting the High Court and Vypeen terminals.<\/p>\n
This pioneering project leverages the existing waterways in Kochi to establish a network of 38 terminals across 10 islands, utilising a fleet of 78 electrically propelled hybrid ferries. With its ambitious scale, Water Metro has earned distinction of being the world’s largest urban water transport system.<\/p>\n
The first phase of the project has introduced two key routes: High Court to Vypeen and Vyttila to Kakkanad, with a fleet of eight electric-hybrid boats currently in operation. The estimated travel time for both routes is approximately 20-25 minutes, providing commuters with swift and efficient transportation options.<\/p>\n
