The government of Maharashtra has put forth a total of 38 ropeway projects for consideration under the Parvatmala Yojana. These proposals span across regions such as Mumbai, Satara, Raigad, Nashik, Nanded, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and Pune.<\/p>\n
Several of these projects aim to establish ropeway connections to major tourist destinations, including Sinhagad Fort, Rajgad Fort, Shivneri Fort, Darya Ghat, and Lenyadri Ashtavinayak at Junnar in Pune.<\/p>\n
Earlier in 2022, the state had initially proposed 20 projects in response to the Centre’s request for proposals under the Parvatmala Yojana. However, new ropeway plans were added to the list, bringing the total to 38.<\/p>\n
Ropeways are no longer solely considered a means to promote tourism; they are increasingly viewed as a mode of urban transport to enhance connectivity. Maharashtra’s list of proposed ropeway projects is one of the most extensive in the country.<\/p>\n
Additionally, preparations are underway for three projects at Rajgad Fort in rural Pune, Matheran hill station and Mahad in Raigad district. Furthermore, bids have been invited to construct a new 5.76 km-long ropeway from Brahmagiri to Anjaneri Hills in Trimbakeshwar, Nashik.<\/p>\n
This ropeway will connect these two significant hilltop locations, which are approximately 7 km apart. Trimbakeshwar houses one of the 12 Jyotirlinga temples, while Brahmagiri is the source of Godavari River, and Anjaneri\u00a0 believed to be the birthplace of Lord Hanuman.<\/p>\n
