JSW Cement, a leading global green cement company, has embarked on a pilot
\nprogramme for electric vehicle (EV) trials as part of its ambitious strategy to
\nsubstantially reduce its carbon footprint in logistics operations.<\/p>\n
The primary objective of this initiative is to replace fossil fuel-based vehicles with
\nEV trucks, marking JSW Cement as one of the pioneering cement companies to
\nundertake EV trials in the logistics sector. This pilot project involves the
\nintegration of five EV trucks into the transportation routes of its manufacturing
\nfacilities in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.<\/p>\n
JSW Cement boasts a carbon emission intensity of 173 kg per tonne, which is only
\nabout 30 percent of the global cement sector’s average of 590 kg per tonne.
\nThrough this pilot project, the company anticipates avoiding more than 150 tonne
\nof carbon emissions, which is equivalent to the annual Co2 absorption of 6,000
\ntrees.<\/p>\n
Currently, JSW Cement has a production capacity of 19 million tonne per annum
\nin India and plans to increase this by an additional 2 million tonne in 2023, with a
\nmedium-term goal of achieving a capacity of 60 mt in the next five years.
\nJSW Cement has procured the initial batch of EV trucks from the Murugappa
\nGroup. Upon the successful completion of the pilot project, the company intends to
\ntransition to EV trucks for its inbound and outbound logistics operations at all
\nmanufacturing units.<\/p>\n
This initiative underscores JSW Cement’s strong commitment to environmental
