Godrej Properties has partnered with the NGO Feedback Foundation to publish a
\nreport titled ‘Waste Matters’ which serves as a comprehensive guide for improved construction waste management in the real estate sector. The report highlights the
\nneed for collaborative efforts across the industry to effectively manage
\nconstruction waste.<\/p>\n
The research involved an assessment of waste generation at various stages of
\nconstruction across 12 Godrej Properties and 2 Mahindra Lifespace Developers
\nunder construction projects in four major cities: Bengaluru, Gurugram, Mumbai
\nand Pune. The findings reveal that approximately 25 million tonne of construction
\nwaste were generated over the past decade in India.<\/p>\n
One significant insight from the report is that for every million sq ft of residential
\ndevelopment, approximately 3,648 tonne of construction waste are generated.
\nConcrete and gypsum were identified as the top two contributors to construction
\nwaste, accounting for 1.672 and 0.411 kg per sq ft, respectively. Other notable
\ncontributors included metal, sand, cement, stone and tiles.<\/p>\n
The handbook not only presents key findings but also offers actionable insights on
\nwaste reduction, segregation, traceability and recycling. It concludes with general
\nrecommendations on waste management for various stakeholders, including
\ndevelopers, contractors, urban local bodies, policymakers and government
\nauthorities.<\/p>\n
Godrej Properties and Feedback Foundation’s collaborative effort aims to drive
\npositive change in construction waste management practices within the real estate
