The facility, operated in partnership with Selladale Synergies India Pvt. Ltd, is designed to safely dismantle vehicles of all categories and makes\u2014including passenger cars, two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and commercial vehicles\u2014aligning with India\u2019s vehicle scrappage policy that targets older, polluting vehicles. Inaugurated by Snehasis Chakraborty, West Bengal\u2019s Transport Minister, the scrapping unit is the first of its kind in the state and the third in eastern India. \u201cThis is a welcome step towards building a cleaner and more efficient future for our people,\u201d said Chakraborty. He added that the initiative will support adoption of newer, safer, and more energy-efficient vehicles, while contributing to the state\u2019s economy.<\/h4>\n<h4>Joining virtually, Kolkata Mayor and Urban Development Minister Firhad Hakim highlighted the environmental and employment benefits of the facility. Tata Motors Vice President and Head of Commercial Vehicles \u2014 Trucks, Rajesh Kaul, emphasised the company\u2019s leadership in sustainable vehicle lifecycle management. \u201cThe inauguration of West Bengal\u2019s first Re.Wi.Re and the eighth in India marks a major stride in scaling the country\u2019s vehicle scrapping infrastructure,\u201d he said. \u201cThis facility reflects our commitment to safety, compliance, and environmental stewardship through a robust circular economy model.\u201d The Kolkata centre features fully digitalised operations, ensuring a paperless workflow and specialised dismantling zones for tyres, batteries, fuel, and oils.
