The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board kick-started the
\nrainwater harvesting from abandoned quarries in Kancheepuram district, and the
\ncollected storm water will be drained into Chembarambakkam water treatment
\nplant to enhance the drinking water supply to greater Chennai.<\/p>\n
As the quarry level reached its maximum level, the board proposed to convert
\n30 mld of rainwater stored in the quarry for drinking water purpose by treating
\nthe same at Chembarambakkam treatment plant. The capacity of Chembarambakkam treatment plant is 530 mld of which 235
\nmld drinking water is supplied to residential areas in the city. By converting the
\nquarry water into drinking water for residential areas, one MCFT of
