A division bench of the Gujarat High Court has directed the Ahmedabad
\nMunicipal Corporation (AMC), the Gujarat Pollution Control Board, and
\nAhmedabad Mega Clean Association to submit before the court their vision,
\nplanning, decisions, and concrete actions that the bodies plan to undertake to
\nensure zero wastewater discharge into the Sabarmati River.<\/p>\n
The development comes as the court noted that the earlier directions issued by
\nthe HC for curbing pollution and discharge of wastewater in the river have not
\nbeen followed.<\/p>\n
However, since the time that Sabarmati River Front Development Corporation
\nappointed Ranjit Buildcon to carry out the construction of certain portions of<\/p>\n
Riverfront Phase-2, it has also been brought to the notice that Ranjit Buildcon
\nhas created an artificial cesspool due to which the contaminated sewage is
\ngetting collected in the cesspool and the flow into the river has been stopped.
\nHowever, according to the amicus, a huge quantity of contaminated sewage
\nwithin a small area would result in percolation of the contaminants directly into
\nthe underground water table and hence the creation of the artificial cesspool
