The train, expected to start operations by early 2026, will cut travel time between the two cities from 10–12 hours to just six to seven hours, significantly improving intercity connectivity across western and central Maharashtra.

The Pune–Nanded route marks Maharashtra’s 13th Vande Bharat Express, strengthening the state’s reputation as a leader in modern, high-speed rail infrastructure. Officials said the new service will play a critical role in linking industrial, pilgrimage, and educational hubs across the state, providing faster, safer, and more comfortable journeys for passengers. “This route will particularly benefit commuters from Solapur, Osmanabad, and Marathwada who currently face long travel hours,” a railway official said. “It’s a major step towards accessible, time-efficient mobility for both business and leisure travellers.”

Spanning around 550 kilometres, the train will operate with limited halts at key junctions such as Kurduwadi in Solapur district and Dharashiv (formerly Osmanabad), before terminating at Nanded. The schedule aims to balance speed and convenience, allowing efficient travel for passengers from rural as well as urban regions. The semi-high-speed service is designed to complement existing routes, including the Mumbai–Solapur and Nagpur–Bilaspur Vande Bharat lines, by improving east–west connectivity within the state. In addition, towns like Barshi, Madha, Pandharpur, and Karmala are expected to gain indirect benefits through improved access to nearby major stations.

With 12 Vande Bharat trains already operational, Maharashtra remains one of India’s most connected states under the programme. Current services link Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, and Kolhapur with other economic centres across India. The introduction of the Pune–Nanded service underscores ongoing efforts to modernise transport infrastructure, strengthen regional trade corridors, and stimulate tourism in under-served areas like Marathwada. The train will feature upgraded onboard amenities, including enhanced seating, infotainment, and improved safety systems. Ticket fares are expected to range from ₹1,200 to ₹2,500, depending on class and destination, according to initial estimates.

Experts note that the new link could have a multiplier effect on Maharashtra’s regional economy by facilitating faster travel for professionals, pilgrims, and tourists. “Reducing travel time by almost half can drastically improve regional business linkages and accessibility,” said a transport policy analyst. “It’s a crucial step toward making Maharashtra’s transport network both efficient and inclusive.” As the state continues to build a more connected and sustainable rail ecosystem, the Pune–Nanded Vande Bharat Express is poised to become a symbol of progress—offering cleaner, faster, and more reliable mobility for millions of passengers.

Also Read: State Directs Pune To Audit Footpaths for Pedestrian Safety, Clear Encroachments In 6 Months

Maharashtra Unveils New Pune–Nanded Vande Bharat Express To Boost Connectivity

Maharashtra is set to expand its fast-growing Vande Bharat Express network with the launch of a new semi-high-speed service connecting Pune and Nanded.
