Dana India has successfully completed a series of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives aimed at improving road safety and infrastructure in the accident-prone areas of Chakan, Pune. These efforts, aimed at reducing traffic accidents and enhancing the safety of commuters and pedestrians, have reinforced Dana India’s commitment to sustainable development and social responsibility.
As part of its efforts to improve road safety in Chakan, Dana India has installed 30 high-mast solar streetlights at Alandi Phata Chowk. This initiative significantly enhances visibility at night, reducing the risk of accidents for approximately 3,600 villagers and travelers. By leveraging solar energy, the company is also contributing to Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy and Goal 13: Climate Action of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In addition to lighting, Dana India implemented road safety signage and installed metal barricades in the Chakan Industrial Area. This move is designed to regulate traffic flow and protect pedestrians, benefiting approximately 2.5 lakh commuters daily. The project directly supports Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals, aiming to improve urban safety and foster collaborative efforts for sustainability. Dana India also took steps to improve road visibility and safety by installing road divider railings at critical points like Endurance Chowk. This infrastructure development will benefit over 3 lakh people by improving road safety and reducing potential accidents. This effort supports Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, as well as Goal 15: Life on Land, contributing to the overall safety and sustainability of the area. Furthermore, Dana India upgraded the street lighting across key locations in the Chakan Industrial Area and Endurance Chowk, improving nighttime visibility for an estimated 3 lakh individuals.
These improvements also contribute to the SDGs, including Goal 11 and Goal 15, by promoting safer and more sustainable urban environments. “These initiatives represent a significant step towards improving road safety and promoting sustainability in the Chakan community. At Dana India, we are committed to driving meaningful change and enhancing the quality of life for the people of Pune while supporting the global sustainability agenda,” said Gajanan Gandhe, Country Head and Vice President of Dana India. Dana India’s impactful CSR projects demonstrate its dedication to enhancing community safety and promoting sustainable development. By improving road safety and infrastructure in Chakan, Dana India is playing a vital role in supporting the community’s growth and well-being, while aligning with global sustainability efforts in Maharashtra and beyond.
